Innovation and Technology at PRATS

The innovation in our processes translates into lenses and their ability to improve people’s vision. Discover the added value of a century-old manufacturer like PRATS through the journey of the lenses, a path that begins with design and manufacturing.

Behind every PRATS lens

1. It all starts at the optician

A lens is born from a personalized decision.

The optometrist performs an individualized examination and selects the most suitable lens. Then, specific measurements are taken to adapt the lenses to the frame, the user's eyes, and face.

2. The order becomes a unique lens

At PRATS, we don't mass-produce; each lens is a unique, unrepeatable order.

A robotic system selects the appropriate blank and begins an automated journey of absolute precision. From the very first moment, the lens is digitally identified and traced.

3. We sculpt vision, point by point

We don't mold lenses; we sculpt them to measure.

The lens is automatically blocked to ensure stability and precision.

Then, it is surfaced with synthetic diamond, point by point, according to its individual design. After surfacing, microns of material are polished until a perfectly smooth and transparent surface is achieved.

Before continuing, the lens is laser-engraved with invisible technical marks that guarantee its identification throughout the process.

4. High-tech treatments

Invisible layers, visible precision.

The lens is chemically cleaned and activated to ensure a perfect bond. It is then hardened to increase its resistance. The anti-reflective treatment is applied in a high-vacuum chamber using mineral evaporation technology with controlled energy and plasma.

The result? Transparency, resistance, and durability.

5. Edging

We edge over 90% of lenses.

We were pioneers and continue to innovate. Our robotic system precisely adapts any shape, facilitating comfortable and hassle-free final assembly.

6. Total control. No exceptions

100% of lenses are inspected. Clear objective: 0% defects.

At PRATS, we don't perform random checks. Each lens goes through three inspection phases: after surfacing, after treatments, and after edging.

In addition to automated power, centering, and thickness controls, we measure the complete surface topography. We don't just verify reference points; we check every millimeter.

7. Ready for its destination

Precision right up to delivery.

More than 90% of lenses are edged in the factory with our own robotic system. They are then individually sleeved, including a warranty card and PRATS Unique ID for total traceability.

The automated dispatch system guarantees speed and complete tracking to the optician, with the option of packaging under medical device regulations.

8. Sealed packaging

An ophthalmic lens is a medical device. And its packaging is not a minor detail.

Would we buy a medicine if it came in an unsealed paper envelope instead of being protected in a blister pack? At PRATS, we are the only manufacturers in Spain that use sealed packaging for ophthalmic lenses, designed and validated so that each lens arrives protected, without any risk of contamination, as required by ISO 13485 and the MDR Regulation.

The lens that leaves our factory is exactly the same one that arrives at each optician.

9. Back to the optician. And to the user

The lenses arrive ready for mounting.

The user receives: their personalized lenses, accessible digital information, warranty, unique identification. And most importantly: vision designed exclusively for them.

We don't just manufacture lenses; we control every stage of the process.

And you? What vision do you want to look to the future with?
